I have tried anything and everything when it comes to “fixing” my skin. Topical gels, creams, masks, washes, etc. and many prescriptions and antibiotics from the dermatologist. I’m 30 years old and in my head I’m “too old to still get breakouts”, so spending all of this time and money on my skin only for it to remain the same is very frustrating. I am fortunate enough to live in Scottsdale where the author Jennifer Swink is located, so I’m able to go see her for treatments (hallelujah), but before I made an appointment, I read this book.It finally made sense of acne for me. So many moments while reading this book I thought “Oh, duh!” or “That’s me!” The whole book is about how acne comes from within and can’t necessarily be cured from putting things on top of our skin. She dives deep into diet, nutrition, products, treatments, oral supplements, lifestyle, etc. and how it can negatively impact the skin. So much of it makes sense and I don’t know why I never thought about it this way before. Reading her book is what prompted me to make an appointment to see her. I brought in all the products I use and she was able to tell me “Yes” to the ones that were probably helping me and “No” to the ones that were probably making my skin worse. But, per her book, she reminded me that it does start from within so she & her book are also the reasons I made an appointment with a naturopath doctor whom I’m currently in works with to get extensive bloodwork done to figure out WHAT from within is causing this.IMPORTANT NOTE: The book is amazing, Jennifer is amazing, BUT you’re not gonna love everything you read. A lot of it is some harsh truth on poor diet or lifestyle habits that, if it comes down to it, might need to change. And that’s never fun to hear when you’re so addicted to wine, candy & cheese ;)
